B.I.C competitionnextweek

I appreciate that every one has a different view on next week's game. but I for one will not be attending I do not agree with the present structure, and until we have proper representative Regions, I will not endorse what the W.R.U. are doing to our game. this can have the Pontypridd coach and fill the team with OUR players, but it will still not be a team that I have any affiliation too, if they succeed the press will stay say that it is Cardiff. I Hope to see a good turnout for the boys tomorrow, see you all there

  • Gotta be honest, I forgot the BIC existed until this week.
I think everyone has moved on and just see it as a regional competition now.
  • I agree samponty. They can dress it up as much as they like, but the truth of the matter is it's basically a regional A team. Even though a few games are being played at Sardis, with probably quite a few of our players and our coach, there is only one team I will ever support, and that team has Pontypridd RFC on it's shirt.

  • Same feelings about this competition now, it's been neutered by the the WRU and others. Ponty can hold their heads high for our performances, attitude and support.

  • The BIC means one thing to me. Plastic writing pens. Nothing to do with rugby anymore. See you in cardiff later today.
  • Anyone who attends the BIC game is undermining our chances of getting back into the competition as a club side. We've had those great cross-border away days taken off us and I, for one, am not going to be daft enough to assist the powers that be in their daylight robbery.

  • Same with me, I wish the players all the very best but while the Region persist with calling themselves Cardiff, I won't be supporting the Premiership select

  • Totally agree Pudding. I'd rather lick dog urine off stingy nettles than watch that next week. Seeing a Ponty badge on a Blues shirt makes me want to throw up.
  • What a performance fantastic, their number 4 completely lost control, for the last 20minutes of the game, and his abuse towards the supporters at the end of the game was a disgrace, I would like to say both sides provided a fantastic days rugby, apart from that clown. Next away to Bedwas, what a game to look forward to, but we can do it! Come on the Pont to use one of our colleague's phrases.

  • I sat with at least a dozen Ponty supporters in Cardiff last week and after a cool and mature discussion it was decided by all NOT to attend Sardis Road next Saturday. I hope the club does not put up a post this season as they did last by club historian Alun Grandfield stating why we SHOULD attend. I think the crowd attendance last year shows the true feelings of the majority of Ponty supporters towards these games and they are not easily going to change their minds.

  • Like most true Ponty supporters, I'll be giving the Bic games a miss. No fault of the players: they have been great so far.

  • Just curious..any of our players on the squad?
    Can't find anything on it.

The squad will probably be announced on Thursday evening PD. There should be a mix of players from Ponty, Merthyr and Cardiff involved. However, I suspect there will be a heavy Ponty influence to entice us to go and watch the games. All the best to the players involved, but as previously stated, if it's not playing in a black and white shirt with Pontypridd RFC on it, then I won't be watching.

  • BIC does it stand for 'Bloody Insular Cardiff' , I will not be going got to finish watching my paint dry !

  • Thanks Mogsy.
    Saw this:
The side will be lead by head coach Justin Burnell, and assisted by Llyr Lane and Matthew Rees.

Dan Fish (Cardiff Blues), Lloyd Rowlands (Pontypridd), Dale Stuckey (Pontypridd), Owen Lane (Cardiff Blues Academy), Harri Millard (Cardiff Blues Academy), Will Rees Hole (Cardiff), Alex Webber (Pontypridd), Ben Jones (Cardiff Blues Academy), Diggy Bird (Pontypridd), Ben Thomas (Cardiff Blues Academy), Dane Blacker (Cardiff Blues Academy), Joel Raikes (Pontypridd), Rhodri Cole (Cardiff)

Christian Phillips (Pontypridd), Rhys Carre (Cardiff Blues Academy), Huw Owen (Pontypridd), Ethan Lewis (Cardiff Blues), Ian Jenkins (Cardiff) Joe Page (Pontypridd), Keiron Assiratti (Cardiff Blues Academy), Will Davies-King (Pontypridd), Ben Murphy (Merthyr), Sean Moore (Pontypridd), Chris Smith (British Army/Cardiff), Shay Smallman (Pontypridd), Shane Lewis-Hughes (Cardiff Blues Academy), Sion Bennett (Cardiff Blues), Morgan Sieniawski (Pontypridd), Osian Davies (Merthyr), Luke Crocker (Cardiff)

    1. I hope our boys play well
    2. The club coffers deserve a packed house, but it's not to be
    3. How are they supposed to do well? Can't have cohesion in a squad that doesn't play together.

Thank GOD I came over for the Bristol semi. I fear that I likely witnessed the last big crowd at the House of Pain. Ahhh...what could have been. Damn shame.

  • Anyone coming from Bristol will have a shock if they are expecting anything like the old BIC crowds. This will be like a home game for Bristol if they bring 300.

  • At first sight I make it 12 Ponty players, 7 academy players, 4 Cardiff players, 3 Blues players, 2 Merthyr players, and we also provide the head coach. I may have miscounted, but that leaves me with a slightly ominous feeling. Until now there was no shadow on the horizon. Maybe I'm still a bit paranoid.

  • I genuinely hope all our players and the academy lads give it a real go, do themselves proud, learn from the experience and importantly stay injury free. I won't go and watch the game on principal but I do wish them all the very best

  • I agree, particularly about staying injury free. I also find it difficult to rid myself of misgivings about outside interference. I suppose we should be used to not being masters of our own ship, but.....

  • The Hold The Gang won’t be there. But we wish All the players the best. And agree get through injury free.
    HOLD THE LONE
  • Just noticed on Bristol rugby site that Bristol United have selected a development xv for the game against Cardiff Premiership select tomorrow.

How times have changed. They used to send down a full strength squad when we used to play them, along with London Welsh and Leinster etc. To be perfectly honest I can't see it lasting much longer, although I suppose it's a good workout for the reserve players.

  • They could have had a crowd there today but the WRU are braindead as everyone North of the M4 knows. Glamorgan Premiership Select, Dyfed Premiership Select, Gwent and West Glam it's all in the name. Sticking Cardiff into the name is like red rag to a bull. Hope OUR players do well but I'm off out for the day !

there is no BIC anymore. It finishes with this seasons final. It is as they say " NO MORE"

  • Be glad to see it gone. We can then have uninterrupted fixtures from September to May.

With no more BIC games, as I see it there are going to be a minimum of 6 weekends next season that the wru are going to have to fill. Hopefully it will mean that we can go back to playing all teams HOME and AWAY.
I am surprised that the English clubs kept it going this long as support at away games that include a welsh select side has been a numerical joke as most games have had no away support. period. Take the Bristol supporters away from last week and it would have been embarrassing

Agree, really hope we go back to playing everyone home and away in the league with no conferences, splits or any nonsense like that. Personally I enjoy our away day trips down west Wales, it’s like a day out at St. Fagans ;-)

Aren't Bristol United their reserve team. They would have a number of 1st teamers in their side on a regular basis. They had some decent youngsters in the side and coached by Jonathon Thomas.
