A childhood reminiscence about Bob, the idol I sadly never met, and the idol I happily still have.
As a Ponty mad 11 yr old I came home from school one day to be told the astonishing news that my idol Bob Penberthy had visited our home to perform his duties as as an electricity board worker. I was told he was greeted as rugby royalty and that he had to duck everywhere he went around our home to avoid banging his head.
Such was my grandmother's excitement at the occasion, that she immediately required my parents to take her to the Grogg shop to purchase a sizeable Bob Grogg. The Grogg was placed in our living room and I was asked on arriving home to spot if anything was new.
Today some nearly 50 years later that same vintage Bob Grogg sits proudly in our kitchen, the carrier of memories very much golden just like Bob.
